Castrol Techniclean S-RP is a mildly alkaline, water-miscible, mineral-oil based emulsion cleaner with very good washing and cleaning performance. In addition to removing machining residues, it forms a thin, oily corrosion-protection film on the treated workpiece.
Castrol Techniclean S-RP is formulated without boron, formaldehyde releasers and monoethanolamine (MEA), supporting current occupational safety and environmental requirements.
Applications
- Intermediate and final cleaning of metal parts after machining
- Removes residues from water-miscible metalworking fluids (coolants)
- Removes light cutting and stamping oils as well as lubricating oils
- Removes chips and general contamination
- Suitable for modern spray and compressed-air washing systems
Process Note
After the water evaporates, a thin oily film remains on the metal surface, providing very good temporary corrosion protection on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This makes the product particularly suitable where parts must be stored or transported after cleaning.
Recommended Operating Conditions
| Use concentration | up to 10 % |
| Emulsion temperature range | 40 – 60 °C |
| Spray pressure (emulsion) | up to 5 bar, compressed air up to 20 bar |
Technical Data
| Property | Castrol Techniclean S-RP |
|---|
| Appearance (concentrate) | transparent to slightly hazy |
| Colour (concentrate) | yellow to brown |
| Density at 20 °C | 927 kg/m³ |
| Appearance (emulsion) | milky |
| pH (5 % in 10 °dH water) | 9.7 |
| Refractometer factor | 0.9 |
| Corrosion protection (10 % in deionised water) – indoor storage | up to 12 months |
Application Notes
- Best emulsion formation when the concentrate is added to lukewarm water while stirring or circulating.
- Because the emulsion is semi-stable, continuous bath movement is beneficial (e.g., circulation pump, agitator, continuous throughput).
- Regular checks of concentration, pH and bath level are recommended, especially at elevated operating temperatures.
- To minimise stability/corrosion issues caused by water hardness and corrosive salts (e.g., chlorides), top up evaporation losses with deionised water.
- The corrosion-protection film must be completely dry (water-free) before packing.
- Temperature-related cloudiness may occur; it is reversible and does not affect product quality.
- “Indoor storage” refers to storing steel parts in enclosed rooms at normal humidity (around 60%). Longer periods may apply for finished surfaces or sealed packaging.
Storage
Keep containers tightly closed. Protect from frost; store cool and dry and avoid direct sunlight. Recommended storage temperature: 5 °C to 45 °C. Please observe the Safety Data Sheet.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
What is Castrol Techniclean S-RP used for?
For intermediate and final cleaning of metal components in spray and compressed-air washing systems, removing coolant residues, light oils, chips and general dirt.
Why does the product leave an oily film after drying?
The remaining thin oily film provides very good temporary corrosion protection on ferrous and non-ferrous metals during storage or transport.
What operating conditions are typical?
Depending on the process: up to 10% use concentration, 40–60 °C emulsion temperature, spray pressure up to 5 bar (compressed air up to 20 bar).
How should the emulsion be prepared?
Add concentrate to lukewarm water while stirring/circulating and ensure sufficient bath movement. Preferably compensate evaporation losses with deionised water.
